London, England

Nikita Lakdawala ( IMJR in Healthcare and Inequality) spent the spring semester of her junior year at UConn in London.

I chose the program primarily because of the location; I wanted to study abroad in London. The program is geared toward English and History majors, but I have been able to include courses relevant to my IMJR. I am taking a Health Economics course and also have been working on an independent study on the British healthcare system, the NHS. I have done a lot of reading about how healthcare in the UK and the US differ. It has also been interesting talking to different people from the UK and listening to their thoughts and opinions about healthcare. I realized that there are issues and concerns about healthcare in every country.

The study abroad program has also allowed me to take courses outside of my major. The UConn in London program offers courses that are integrated into the city. We’re rarely in the classroom. My favorite is an Art History course where we go to different museums every week to discuss paintings.

Niki’s advice to students considering study abroad:

I recommend planning ahead. If you are interested in research or internship opportunities, you should look into them and contact the organizations before leaving for the semester.
