Research Methods Courses

A research methods course is a course that introduces you to the ways in which knowledge is produced and evaluated in a discipline. You should identify a research methods course that is relevant to one of the disciplines represented in your major. Examples of research methods courses include:

ANTH 3003 Field Research in Social Settings
COMM 3000Q Research Methods in Communications
HIST 2100 Historian’s Craft
POLS 2072QC Quantitative Analysis in Political Science
PSYC 2100 Q Principles of Research in Psychology
SOCI 3201 Methods of Social Research

ECON 2201 and 2202 Intermediate Micro and Macro Economics may serve as the equivalent of a research methods course.

In the sciences, one or more laboratory or research courses may meet the research methods course requirement.

In the humanities, students should consider what the information literacy requirements (listed in the Undergraduate Catalog) are for the relevant majors. Using these as a model, students should propose one or more courses that will serve to fulfill the research methods requirement.
